Human CXCL13 (BCA-1, B cell-attracting chemokine) is an 87 residue protein that is strongly expressed in the liver, as well as spleen, lymph nodes, appendix and stomach. CXCL13 binds the CXCR5 receptor playing a key role in recruiting B lymphocytes and follicular helper T cells to lymphoid tissues, thereby facilitating germinal center formation and humoral immunity. CXCL13 also binds the scavenger receptor ACKR5.
