Description: Human CX3CL1 is a membrane protein consisting of a mucin-like stalk attached to a transmembrane domain containing a C-terminal tail. CX3CL1 is the ligand to the G protein-coupled receptor CX3CR1. CX3CL1 and its receptor have been shown to be a involved in the cellular processes leading to atherosclerosis, where a deletion of the gene specific to the CX3CR1 receptor in transgenic mouse models lead to a decrease in the disease.
