Human CCL23 (C-C motif ligand 23; also known as MPIF-1, CK_8) is a 99-amino-acid CC chemokine expressed by monocytes and macrophages. CCL23(1-99) is a weak agonist of CCR1, with low monocyte and T cell chemotaxis. It is proteolytically processed (e.g., by neutrophil elastase) into CCL23(25-99), a highly potent CCR1 agonist. These interactions highlight CCL23(1-99)Õs role as a pro-form in inflammation.
