Human CCL1 (I-309, TCA-3) is a 73 amino acid CC chemokine secreted by activated T cells, monocytes, and mast cells in response to inflammatory stimuli. CCL1 primarily binds and signals through the conventional G protein-coupled receptor CCR8 to attract monocytes, Th2-polarized T cells, and regulatory T cells to sites of inflammation, contributing to allergic responses, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. CCL1 also binds weakly to the chemokine scavenger receptor ACKR1 (which internalizes and degrades the ligand to regulate bioavailability) and to the recently characterized scavenger receptor ACKR5.
