Human CXCL5 is a 78 amino acid protein expressed by TNF- activated eosinophils and recruits CXCR2+ neutrophils to inflamed tissues. CXCL5 has been implicated as a peripheral mediator of UVB-induced pain. Secreted full-length CXCL5 can be N-terminally truncated by leukocyte proteases to produce a 5-78 variant that is an 8-fold more potent chemoattractant than the full-length version.
