Description: Recombinant human CXCL16 protein is expressed in E. coli, refolded and purified to yield the 89 residue chemokine domain of the polypeptide. Human CXCL16 is produced in the lymphoid organs by dendritic cells found in the T cell zones, and the red pulp of the spleen. CXCL16 lacks the ELR motif common in most CXC chemokines and is the second, along with fractalkine (CXC3C1) to contain a transmembrane domain. CXCL16 is a ligand to the receptor CXCR6 (also known as Bonzo, STRL33 or TYMSTR), a receptor previously shown to be a co-receptor for HIV entry. CXCR6 and CXCL16 have been linked to many diseases in mice and humans including autoimmunity, inflammatory disorders, graft-versus-host disease, cancer and HIV-AIDS
